THE SOCIETY OF ST JOSEPH OF ARIMATHEA

The death of any child is tragic loss. The Society of St Joseph of Arimathea gives witness to the sanctity of these young lives by facilitating a dignified burial. Inspired by the acts of St Joseph of Arimathea, who offered his tomb for the burial of Jesus Christ, the Society offers burial space and/or cremation assistance to families in need. Founded in 2016, the Society is a public non-profit (501c3) organization in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The Society’s work responds to a range of circumstances including, but not limited to, miscarriage, IUFD, and stillbirth. Our present work is focused in North Carolina and we work closely with Novant and Atrium Health systems as an alternative for fetal disposition. Since our founding, we have facilitated the burial of over 900 children.

The Society Shrine and Cemetery

The Society’s cemetery was established in 2020. All children served by the Society may be buried there at the parent’s request and all children in the custody of the Society are buried here. Currently, over 800 children are buried in the Society’s cemetery.
